Bank holiday, Bankswood-Inspire, Cool Aid and Grillfest
If you’re staying local for the bank holiday weekend, despite the weather predictions there’s a number of local events on from Bankswood-Inspire to Cool Aid and Grillfest.
First up if you’re heading out on Monday by bus, it bank holiday service which in the case of our local buses means that only the 236/7 from Glossop to Ashton, the 202 from Glossop to Hyde and for its final weekend of the year the 951 from Glossop to Huddersfield are running on Monday with the 236/7 and 202 running to Sunday timetables. In terms of events, first up and taking place in Bankswood Park in Hadfield, is the Bankswood Inspire Festival which this is a merged event of the Inspire Community Festival, along with the traditional Bankswood Music Festival.
You can view more details by clicking here for the Bankswood Inspire Festival website, but across Saturday and Sunday from 1pm there’s a whole host of music treats, inspiring talks, dance and puppet shows, and that’s just the 3 stages along with rides, stalls, local community groups, activities and workshops, the all important beer tent and don’t forget that on the Sunday the fun starts even earlier with the Soapbox race at 10.00am.
On Sunday as flagged earlier in the week from 12.00noon in the Friendship Pub in Glossop, Howard Town Ward Councillor Colin Waude is undertaking a 12 hour dj set to raise funds for High Peak Women’s Aid, and even if you can’t attend on Sunday, please consider sponsoring Colin via his just giving page.
Lastly also on Sunday at Glossop Rugby Club is a new event Glossop Grill Fest 2014 – Glossops first competitive team BBQ event, this is your chance to show who’s the best behind a grill!

GrillFest 2014 is about bringing together people’s three favourite things: meat’ fire and beer. Teams will be entering the BBQ cooking competition aiming to be crowned Grand Champion. The festival is also open to spectators and families who can look around the stands, try the teams samples, sample some of Americas finest beers and generally have a grand day out.
It starts at 12.00noon and Glossop Rugby Club if you’ve not been is just before you get to Charlesworth on the Glossop to Marple road (heading from Glossop).
