SFTW – Charlesworth & Chisworth Carnival 2018
This week’s something for the weekend is the Charlesworth & Chisworth Carnival which is taking place tomorrow (Saturday 14th July), and whilst the weather (thankfully) has returned to a little dampness today its back to sun tomorrow.
As opposed to the Glossop Carnival it starts with a traditional carnival parade with floats that will be judged before it sets off from St Margaret’s School on Glossop Road at 12.30pm, before proceeding up to the recreation ground on Marple Road in Charlesworth.
Once it arrives at the Rec, there’s a whole host of stalls and entertainment including at 2.00pm the crowning of the carnival royalty, along with from 2.30pm a hefty 3 and a bit mile fell run up one side of Coombes Rocks and back down the other side – more details here
There’s also for the younger runner, the junior fell race, with 3 different age categories starting from 3.30pm.
Things then draw to a close at 4.30pm with the presentation of prizes, including the prizes for the scarecrow competition which has seen scarecrows scattered across Charlesworth, and you can take part and have a wander on the scarecrow trail by following the trail available in local shops.
This year, the carnival is going to be requesting a £1 donation, from those who come to enjoy the Carnival, as people enter the rec on Carnival Day. They would like to stress that the donation is voluntary as they would not want to exclude anyone from the field if this was not affordable for them, but all the donations help support the carnival returning in future years
All in all, there’s something for everyone so it’s well worth you having a wander up, and if you are not sure what to expect, you can see pictures from last year’s carnival by clicking here.
