Merchant Navy Day 2018
Merchant Navy Day 2018: This coming Monday (3rd September) will see two events taking place with the Deputy Mayor of the High Peak Councillor John Walton to mark Merchant Navy Day 2018.
The Red Ensign Flag (pictured with last years Mayor) will be raised at ceremonies in Buxton and Glossop, where the Deputy Mayor will say a few words before raising the flag.
In Glossop, people are asked to arrive by 11:50 am for a midday start at the flagpole in Norfolk Square.
While, earlier in the morning in Buxton, people are encouraged to arrive by 9:50 am for a 10 am start at the flagpole by the Band Stand in the Pavilion Gardens.
This campaign, by Seafarers UK, remembers the sacrifices, salutes the courage and supports the future of the often unsung personnel of our Merchant Navy.
Too often they are the forgotten or invisible service, and by raising the Red Ensign, we will ensure that at least on this day they are remembered. This will mean so much to their families and to the retired but most especially, to those at sea.
