ICYMI If you go down to the woods today
ICYMI If you go down to the woods today : Last Wednesday (17th August) afternoon saw this year’s G52 annual meet the neighbours event take place.
The annual event, this year with a ‘If you go down to the woods’ theme, aims to bring the community together for a fun filled afternoon, where this year in addition to meeting your neighbours, you could also meet a range of woodland creatures from Owls to snakes, with meerkat’s, rabbits and a few more in-between.
Over 500 local residents, attended the event over the course of the Wednesday afternoon with the square at the shops on Winster Mews been transformed as pictured below into a temporary woodland with the help of several tons of wood chip, with some of the wood chip still been available for collection if you need any for your garden !

In addition to the animals there’s was also a host of information stalls, covering everything from fire safety to building a bird box, along with the usual face painting and raffle’s.
To put together any event like this, takes the help of a lot of folk, and for last week’s event it was thanks to the following (apologies if I’ve missed anyone) : Representatives from the Peak District National Park and the Glossopdale Furniture Project for their help with the bird box activity, representatives from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, High Peak Borough Council and Derbyshire County Councils’ Recycling Team, Scott Hallam from the MAT Team, Simon and Steve from High Peak Borough Council Operational Services, Wendy Richards I Sparkle Face Painting, Café Jericho, DCC’s Thriving Communities and High Peak Borough Council’s Communities Team along with the volunteers from G52, along with The Wild Roadshow from Stockport, Buxton’s Animal Magic Parties for providing the animals.
