Gamesley Buses (and local trains) – New Year Ticket Rises : Unfortunately one of the few certainties of every New Year, guaranteed to dull your Christmas buzz is the New Year price rises that comes to travel costs.
In terms of rail, the picture as highlighted below (at least nationally), shows that the cost of tickets has rise 38% in recent years under the Tories.

For buses, the picture is a little better, with no ‘rises’ to individual fares expected in the near future, however there will be some changes to System one tickets as detailed below :

One ticket giving you unlimited travel on any bus*, train or tram, anytime and anywhere across Greater Manchester.
System One DaySavers affected by the price change are:
Adult Off Peak (Any bus* & train): Was £6.60 NOW £6.70
Adult Off Peak (Any train & tram): Was £7.90 NOW £8.00
Adult Off Peak (Any bus*, train & tram): Was £8.60 NOW £8.70System One County Card
One ticket giving you unlimited travel on any bus* or train in Greater Manchester. It can also be used to travel on the city centre tram zone. County Card’s affected by the price change are:
County Card (Weekly): Was £35.20 NOW £35.60
County Card (Month): Was £110.00 NOW £111.00
County Card (Annual): Was £1100.00 NOW £1111.00

One thing to be aware of, especially if you are a current System One user, is “get me there“, the new(ish) smart card for Greater Manchester Travel (or Manchester’s Oyster Card for short), which particularly for bus users at current is offering some good discounts :
