#999day
Today is #999day or Emergency Services day – a day to celebrate and thank the people who work and volunteer in the emergency services.
More than 2 million people work and volunteer in the emergency services today, including 250,000 first responders. They work in a range of roles – from answering emergency calls to dealing with admin to practising medicine, fighting fires, policing the streets and saving lives at sea, on mountains, lowlands and below the ground.
Volunteers like mountain rescue locally to the RNLI on the coast are essential and play a massive part in keeping us safe so a special thanks to all of you from all of us! #Thanks
Emergency services day also remembers the more than 7,500 members of the emergency services who have lost their lives as a result of their duty and supports the campaign for the National Emergency Services Memorial.
