Hadfield Art Show 2018
This weekend has seen the 8th Hadfield Art Show, taking place this year not only in its traditional home of Hadfield Hall but also with an extension to the Hadfield Craft Barn for a children’s art exhibition.
With around about 300 works of art on display, the show is well timed, taking place as it does just after the end of national volunteers week.
I say that because, without the efforts of Annette Hetherington the chief organiser and her team of volunteers both for the show and within Hadfield Hall itself, there would not be an art show, and Hadfield Hall itself may be very different to what it is today and whilst some of the artists may just be hoping for fame and glory, the wide range of art submitted to show is another example of the ‘volunteer’ spirit that stretches across Glossopdale.
To some extent some of the works present at the show (including the felt work pictured right) have come about because people have given their time up to help the greater good, whether that’s teaching folk to draw or paint at some of the local art groups about, or like in the case of felt work put together with the Glossop Arts Project where the project has at times worked to help people with a range of issues live life as full as possible.
So whether you had a chance to get up to show or not and see the great range of works on display, or whether you connect art with volunteering or not, there’s a whole host of local events that take place, that rely on volunteers to happen, and whilst this year volunteers week has finished, I just want to say a big thank you to all of you who give your time in some way or other volunteering in our local community.
