Although alas due to young Harry’s christening neither me nor the other Cllr Mckeown will be attending, this coming Sunday (7th June) from 12.00noon until 5.00pm sees this years Hadfield Carnival.

The fun and events starts at 12 noon and it is taking place at Glossopdale Community College’s Hadfield site on Newshaw Lane, Hadfield.

“The Vicus”, a Roman enactment group will be setting up camp on Saturday ready to entertain everyone on Sunday afternoon. There will be thrilling demonstrations of gladiator fights and other displays of day to day activities in Roman Britain and in keeping with the Roman theme, along with providing a local tie up, Glossop and Longdendale Archaeological Society will be there with their Melandra display and details on the proposed trust that will hopefully be setup to enhance the future of Melandra.

In addition to the Roman themed activities all the usual attractions will be there – fair ground rides, circus skills and Haywill Animal Rescue centre will be running the dog show.

The WI will be selling their delicious homemade cakes and there will be a wide range of food stalls as well as the Little Hatch cafe selling a variety of food and drinks. Howard Town brewery will be there with a range of their beers. Musical entertainment will be provided by Burning Sky.
