Gamesley Community Bonfire 2014 – cancelled
Update 6/11/14
This evening should have been the Gamesley Community Bonfire, however this morning as per the details below – we unfortunately had to cancel the event :
For clarity….We have been monitoring the weather for the last 48hours and the wind speed and direction has been constant. I have met with the pyrotechnic expert this morning on site who has shown me the computer mapping system that they use to predict fallout from debris and possible issues. He explained that the wind direction was SSE with gusts of 40mph meaning the fallout distance would be 120meters + from the firing zone. This means the debris would fall on the estate and residents houses. This is not a viable option and the company are not in a position to continue as planned due to these issues.
The event has always been planned and booked for today and at no point was the firework company booked for the 5th November as we book this 10 months in advance of the event.
I realise and understand everyone’s frustration and this is shared by myself and the team who have worked hard for the last few months putting the event together and collecting necessary resources for it; however we are not in a position to put people and their properties at risk.
We apologise for the disappointment this may cause and hope there is an understanding that this couldn’t be avoided.
