Glossop Christmas Lights Switch On 2012
Last Friday evening saw the Glossop Christmas Lights Switch On take place, with a different format to previous years.
As I understand it, the intention was to make the event have a more traditional / family focus which I think was achieved.
The event which was organised by local volunteers in partnership with the Borough Council, started off with Minister Helen Stubbs from the Central Methodist Church who opened the event along with MC Steve Strange from Tameside Radio.
There were a number of community performances including St Luke’s Primary School and carol singing led by Glossop Old Brass Band, along with a great performance from local band “No Less Days”
The event also had a range of stalls from the traditional mince pies and mulled wine, to various local charities including the Bare Essentials Food Bank and the Glossop Peace Group along with children’s rides, toasted marshmallows and small children’s rides.
A whole host of locals played a part in organising the event and each and every person involved should be thanked, with a highlight of the evening being the great initiative of having a local hero in this case Nick and Donna from the Jericho Café help along with Mayor and Santa turn the lights on and the task ahead will be how to hold together and develop that group further to make next year’s event even better.
