Bus Time Changes May 2021
This May, there are no changes to the local buses that serve Gamesley directly. However, there are changes – improvements in one case to services the cover Glossopdale.
Snake X57
The Snake X57 by Hullies of Baslow is getting a further extension. It will, from Sunday 16th May, run from Sheffield to Manchester Airport.
The service, which was introduced last year, initially run from Sheffield to Manchester, stopping at all stops between Sheffield and the Gun Inn and then running express to Manchester.
The service will now continue to Manchester Airport, going via Oxford Road, the University of Manchester, Manchester Royal Infirmary, Rusholme and Fallowfield.
Suppose you’ve not used it – for us on Gamesley. In that case, you can either walk down to the ‘Plough’ or Glossop Caravans (or head into Glossop). It takes around 40 minutes to Manchester, an hour to Sheffield and around an hour and 20 minutes to the Airport.
The first bus to Manchester is just after 10 to 6 and then hourly until 10 to 8, then 2 hourly until the last bus during the week of 6.25 pm, with 2 later trips on Fridays and Saturdays of 8.12 pm and 11.17 pm (from Glossop Market Hall).
For Sheffield, the first bus (times at the Gun Inn) is 7.05 am, then 8.15 am and then every two hours from 10.05 until the last bus during the week at 7.30 pm, again with two later trips on Fridays and Saturdays at 9.30 pm, and 0.20 am.
Sundays towards Manchester run from 7.55 am, then every 2 hours from 10.32 until the last bus at 6.32, and towards Sheffield from 10 am, then every 2 hours until 5.35 pm and 7.35 pm.
The Sunday service towards Sheffield also calls at the Fairholmes Visitor Centre at the Derwent Dam.
I’ve not seen an update yet for the fares all the way to Manchester Airport. Still, from Glossop to Sheffield, it’s £6 single, £7.50 return and Glossop to Manchester is £4.00 single and £5.00 return.
They also have a £10 Hopper+ ticket which is valid on just about all of their services. There are also weekly and monthly tickets and two group tickets, one good for 3 adults or 2 adults and 3 kids for £24, and the other for £30 for 4 adults.
The feedback I’ve seen so far is that this is an excellent service. If you get the chance, please give it a go as it offers some great public transport alternative to places that haven’t had a service for years.
