All is calm – Old Glossop Parish Church
Last Sunday evening (7th December), the grand setting of the Old Glossop Parish Church made a perfect venue for a performance of All is Calm by the In Yer Face Christian Theatre Company.
The performance which had been organised by the Glossopdale Trust as part of the Christmas in Glossop Events, tells the remarkable story of the Christmas Day Truce in World War One when event opposing soldiers downed weapons, played football and for a moment there was no war.
It also tells the story of how back home, women are fighting their own war, with the story of how the Dick Kerr Ladies Football Team came about. Where break-time football working in the dangerous conditions of a Munitions Factory, begin to raise morale and eventually lead to a Christmas Day charity match played in front of a ten thousand strong crowd.
The great cast blended together word and song in a strong performance that both informed and moved those in attendance, with it going on after the performance in Glossop for two performances at the Imperial War Museum in Manchester.
