Environment Select
Monday evening saw a meeting of the Environment Select Committee, amongst
the items for discussion were updates on the council's activities during
energy saving week, updates on waste collection and recycling, gully
cleaning, winter maintenance and a review of the enforcement strategy around
environmental issues.
During energy saving week, by introducing some simply energy saving
measurers such as timers on photocopiers etc to turn them off at night, it
showed a reduction in energy usage by 10.2% on the week before they had been
introduced.
With regards to the review of enforcement strategy delays were highlighted
in the process of enabling PCSO to be able to issue fixed penalty notices
for 'low level environmental crimes' but it was hoped that these delays
would be resolved shortly.
Around the issues of partnership working I raised concerns over the recent
reduction in service for street cleaning on the estate and other High Peak
Community Housing areas across the borough which is apparently all tied in
to the recent changes in agreements between the council and HPCH. Agreements
on which more discussion and work are urgently needed to address current
problems.
