Derbyshire Police and Amber Valley Borough Council are looking for volunteers to help operate the CCTV system across the Amber Valley Area.
Volunteers will monitor footage from the CCTV cameras located in Belper, Heanor, Alfreton and Ripley. Any volunteers will according to the police “play a key role in helping reduce crime and the fear of crime, and creating safer communities for those who live and work within the borough”
New volunteers are needed to help maintain this service, develop strong links with local shopkeepers and support a number of community safety initiatives that are currently being planned, the volunteers will observer incidents on the system and then report them to officers for action.
The volunteer posts are based in the CCTV monitoring suite at Derbyshire Constabulary A Division HQ in Ripley. Hours and days of work are completely flexible – volunteers will not be required to work a minimum number of hours and full training will be provided. All volunteers will also need to undergo security checks.
Now whilst getting volunteers involved in helping the police through schemes such as neighbourhood watch is not unusual is this a step to far ?
