Well Dressing 2013
Last Saturday I was pleased to attend the blessing service for this year’s well dressing at the church of the Immaculate Conception in ‘New York’, Charlesworth.
The well dressing which has become an annual event since it’s start a few years back is part of a long tradition in Derbyshire (which you can find out more about by clicking here) and as in previous years features a main display which this year was of St Francis in part tribute to the new pope, with smaller displays recognising the year of faith along with a special tribute to a member of the parish who has recently took ill.
As in previous years the work is done by local members of the parish, with the assistance of children from St Margaret’s School, and if you’re passing the church (just before the bridge across to Broadbottom on Long Lane), you can view the ‘dressing’ until Sunday.
