On Monday I attended a meeting of the Corporate Select Committee, which looked at amongst over things details on the Corporate Plan and forthcoming Budget.
Tuesday saw the meeting of the Council’s Executive, which considered a number of the items ‘scrutinized’ the night before, and at the previous meeting of the Corporate Select. Amongst others, one item of concern was with regards to the changes to Gold Card Scheme to take in to account its change to a free bus travel pass for pensioners. The reason for the concern is that from the comment made on Tuesday, there still seems to a number of issues ‘under discussion’ despite it been due for implementation from next April, including of particular concern to local residents hear on cross border travel.
Thursday saw the Gamesley Festive Market, (hope to have some pictures soon) take place on the shops on Winster Mews, very well attended, with a range of stalls, covering Christmas presents, to raffle’s for a number of local groups. Thanks to all involved for taking part with particular thank to those that planned the event (names not listed in case I miss someone !)
Thursday also saw a meeting of the Labour Group. Main topic on Thursday was the forthcoming council meeting, which will include the appointment of next years mayor, who I hope will be Derek Udale, who has been an able Deputy to other Cllr Mckeown who is this year’s mayor as well as been deputy for the previous 2 mayor’s before. The meeting will also include a debate on a motion from the Labour Group, once again trying to restore free swimming for 3 and 4 years olds at the Council’s Swimming Pools.
Friday, finished off the week by going to see ‘King Kong’, very good, quite entertaining and well worth the ‘hype’ it has received in the run up to it been released.
