Annual Council 2016
Annual Council 2016 :
Last Tuesday evening (17th May) saw this years High Peak Borough Council annual council meeting and the installation of the Mayor and Deputy for the coming year, in the Pavilion Gardens Grande Marque.
It also saw, prior to the annual meeting an ordinary full council meeting which amongst the items of business considered the annual report of the council’s select committees.
The report details the work of the council’s three select committees, Corporate, Community and Housing during the year, along with information on sub committees that ran during the year.
The select committees have a wide ranging remit to consider issues across the High Peak, not just the services and issues directly controlled by HPBC, and as detailed within the report they have considered such issues, as changes to the courts service, fire and ambulance service changes, government consultations and more.

After the functional issues were considered, it was on to the ceremonial with the annual council and Mayor making with this year’s Mayor been Cllr George Wharmby Conservative councillor for St John’s Ward which covers part of Glossop Road on Gamesley along with Charlesworth and Chisworth. The Mayoress will be his wife, current Dinting Ward Councillor and former Mayor Cllr Jean Wharmby, making the couple I think the second husband and wife team to both be Mayor, following on from Kath and David Holtom.
This year’s Deputy Mayor will be High Peak’s youngest to date, Buxton Central Councillor Matthew R Stone with his mum and former Councillor / Deputy Mayor Lynn Stone acting as consort.
