Operation Adriatic sees 16 people arrested in police drugs crackdown
Posted on 5th December 2014
A targeted police operation has seen officers heading out to crackdown on drugs activity in the High Peak.
Operation Adriatic has been running across Buxton North over the last five weeks and has resulted in eight warrants being carried out around Glossop, Gamesley, New Mills, Hadfield and Tintwistle.
Police have arrested 16 people throughout the operation on suspicion of a number of offences including possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs, cultivation of cannabis and money laundering.
At around 5.30pm on Sunday, November 30, officers executed a warrant at a property on Manchester Road in Tintwistle.
During the search, police discovered 23 suspected cannabis plants and drugs paraphernalia. It is believed that the electricity metre had also been bypassed.
A 38-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of possession of Class B drugs and has been bailed pending further police inquiries.
Two men, both aged 19-years-old, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs after officers executed a warrant at a property on Gladstone Street, Glossop.
During the search on Friday, November 21, officers discovered a quantity of suspected Class B drugs and associated paraphernalia.
Both men have since been bailed pending further investigations.
Warrants have been executed at properties on Hague Bar and High Street in New Mills, Bradwell Terrace in Gamesley, Turnlee Drive in Glossop and Conduit Street in Tintwistle.
Six cannabis warnings have also been issued following police stop searches around Glossop and Hadfield.
Section Inspector Barry Doyle from the Buxton North policing teams said: “These warrants are part of a targeted operation to crackdown on drugs offences in our communities and it is my intention to take a zero intolerance approach to those involved with this type of behaviour.
“I’d urge anyone who wants to report suspected criminal activity to do so, and I hope that this action will assure people that we do treat those reports seriously and will act on them.”
